Soccer, Sleep & Cars

Sunday, November 18, 2012: Siena, Italy

I wanted to wake up at eight this morning, but when I went downstairs and saw breakfast wasn’t out yet, I decided it wasn’t worth it to be conscious and went back to sleep. Because of that, we were a little (or an hour) late to church. It’s been hard getting to all three hours mostly because we tend to get really lost, but also because we’re tired and sacrament is the last hour so motivation has to be really strong. When I finally did get down to eat breakfast I found out Fiorella didn’t put out a cup, plate or utensils for me, probably because with travelling and fasting I haven’t eaten breakfast down there for a few weeks. I hope she wouldn’t be too upset if she knew I just went ahead on got my things on my own.

Today was our last Sunday in Siena. Since all the study abroad girls have left it was really empty and a little sad.

This afternoon we also made it to a soccer game. Even though I’d already been to one, Amber hadn’t so I went again. We sat behind this group of men who chatted and yelled about the game the whole time. I mentioned to Amber that I didn’t think they had all come together, but had just met there and said that I think any Italian will make friends will another Italian if they have to sit together for more than 15 minutes. Italians are cute and nice like that. Also, on our way to church this morning we walked past a big group of men wearing blue sports jackets and sweats. As we admired their attractiveness we wondered if they maybe were the opponents for the day’s game and when we got to the stadium the opponent’s colors were blue. So maybe we had our opportunity to meet hot Italian professional soccer players and passed it up.

Do you ever have those days where everything just makes you mad for no reason? I’m having a weekend like that. So yesterday and today I really struggled not to be perpetually whiny and irritated, but it’s been hard and maybe I’ve just wanted to start crying in public several times. I’ve always been a dramatic soul… Anyway, right now I’m feeling a lot better sitting in bed listening to Sufjan Stevens and trying to eat a Butterfinger without making a mess which is basically impossible. Thank you to my dear friends Makenzie and Marissa who sent me a beautiful care package full of things I love and miss (like Butterfingers).

Pretty much this entire last week I’ve fallen asleep before dinner so I’ve been stumbling downstairs for dinner. It’s kinda awkward because, for whatever reason, they can always tell that I just woke up. Tonight my sleepiness really interfered with my ability to eat, which is probably a good thing because I think I’m becoming a little chub. Also, did you know some Italians like to watch car racing? Giuseppe and Fiorella are included and they were watching some race in Austin and got pretty into it. There was also a debate where the race was because Amber and I told Giuseppe Austin is in Texas, but he said the station said it was being broadcast from Northern United States. After much debate and confusion we settled on Texas because it looked warm and everyone was wearing T-shirts.
