10/7/12

Saturday, October 6th, 2012: Siena, Italy

Can you believe it's already been a week of October?? Obviously I can't...

Today was a good day for many reasons. Last night I got to watch a movie and I was still feeling good about it. Movie watching has become a important experience for me because it makes things feel more normal, especially on weekends. It's hard being here at the house reading The Hobbit when I know if I were in Provo I would probably be out doing something fun with my friends. I know I could in theory go out and do something, but other than gelato eating... I'm not sure what to do. I don't think clubbing would be such a good idea. So Amber and I have started renting/buying movies on iTunes and watching them. Last night it was Two Weeks Notice which is pretty dang funny and I always love Sandra Bullock. And Maggie Smith.

Okay. So breakfast was ate (or eaten?), happy post-movie feelings ensued and it seemed like a good time to go for a run. Woohoo, third run of the semester! Uh... yeah. I think the only thing keeping me motivated to run here (beside the threat of gaining a million pounds) is I signed up for a 5k which will happen I think within a week from when I get back to California. I'm excited for and it pushes me (at least a little) to keep getting my butt out of bed for a once every two weeks run. And when I went outside there was fog! I love fog. But it was also a hard run and I walked a lot. Siena is hilly! But the last bit back to the house is always downhill so it ends feeling like a success.

When lunch time rolled around Amber and I went to get Chinese food. We were both craving it, and it was delicious! And pretty reasonably priced. We couldn't even finish all the food we got. So the one Chinese restaurant I know of in Siena is a good'un.

After lunch we wandered and shopped in Siena until it was time to go to the church building for Conference. We got there before anyone had come so we had to sit at Little-Tyke play tables outside the nursery school located across from the building. Good thing some people from the church came and let us in before anyone saw us and thought we were creeps.

First session we watched was General Relief Society (Conference? not sure). Oh, and Amber and I were the only ones who showed up. I guess some girls watched it online and apparently is was being shown at the school, but we sat alone in the room wondering if anyone would ever come. When the Saturday morning conference started people trickled in, so we felt less awkward. It was really strange watching Conference at 6 p.m. and knowing all my friends and family were watching it too, but half a day earlier. Anyway. Conference was good, as usual, and it helped me feel better about life and being here and trying not to be stressed. And that is a good thing.
