Thursday, October 4th, 2012: Siena, Italy
Somehow I got Without Love from Hairspray stuck in my head. Arggghh...
It seems fall is finally coming to Siena. I've been jealous of all my friends in Utah and the big, beautiful fall display Provo always puts on. It's been pretty mild and normal seeming since I've been here, just a few crinkled brown leaves here and there. But lately the light has been changing (I'm real weird about and sensitive to light if you didn't know) and it's been cooler and yesterday there was fog! Fog always reminds me of home and fog delays and basically all things fall/winter. I love it so. Also, tonight I ate a tangerine. Growing up my neighbor had a tangerine tree and he would let us take as many as we wanted as long as we ate them and didn't use the fruit for mischief (like throwing them at stuff...). I loved them. I love them still. And eating one tonight filled my heart with joy because it felt like fall and it reminded me of home and all things seemed beautiful.
At work today the radio station was playing a song I thought I recognized. I was kind of bobbing along to the intro when I realized it was from Labyrinth. Yep. I couldn't help laughing to myself as I sat there and was probably the only person who recognized its cultural significance.
Another item of import, tonight at about 11 p.m. Amber and I decided we wanted gelato. One of my favorite things about Italy is you can go out until about midnight and still get gelato. And you'll see children with their parents eating it at (what seems like) really late hours for babies. Of course, I have this problem where I think everyone has gone to bed by 9 at night. But I really do love the night-life here. Mostly because I can settle my gelato cravings whenever I please.
Good news, now I have Hopeless Wanderer from Mumford & Sons stuck in my head. Much better...
